Naples Rug Lovers – How To Hang An Oriental Rug
Want to add a little color and intrigue to a bare wall? Try hanging an Oriental rug from it.
Anyone can hang a picture, or paint a “feature wall” in a room, but by adding a unique Oriental rug, you’ll not only dress up the room, but you’ll also have a conversation starter and a centerpiece your friends and family will not soon forget.
Many art dealers and collectors are choosing not to lay their beautiful area rugs on the floor and are proudly showcasing them by hanging their rugs next to expensive art. In addition to showcasing a beautiful piece of “art”, you are also preserving it by protecting the area rug from foot traffic.
Preparing a rug for wall hanging can be as simple as purchasing rug clamps (as shown in the top picture) or having an experienced Oriental rug care specialist secure the back of the rug with a Casing sleeve. The specialist will take great care to ensure the stitching of the sleeve will not interfere with the integrity or look of your area rug while being of sufficient strength to prevent damage to the rugs warps, wefts or kilim.
Tips To Consider Before Hanging An Oriental Rug
- PLAN where you want to hang your area rug and measure the available space to make certain you have the necessary space to proudly display your textile
- Make certain the wall you choose to display your Oriental rug will not be in direct sunlight. Area rugs, especially those with vegetable dyes will fade when exposed to direct sunlight over an extended period of time.
- Area rugs that are hung still need “cleaning.” Make certain you are able to access your textile every 3-4 months and use a vacuum attachment to gently vacuum the accumulated dust. This will keep the colors of your textile vibrant.
Adding an element of surprise and uniqueness to your home doesn’t have to be expensive. You don’t have to have a $15,000 Tabriz area rug decorating your wall. In fact, while many of our clients have one of a kind Oriental rugs, others simply have a favorite rug at home, that once cleaned, they decide is too beautiful to walk on again and use as a design feature on a wall. We even have clients who like the idea of hanging an area rug and will purchase a small one from an estate sale or Goodwill, and have us clean and prepare for hanging.
