Hand-Washing Beautiful Area Rugs Throughout SW Florida
At Oriental Rug Salon, we don’t just provide a surface-clean result – we make sure the rug has been thoroughly cleaned, deodorized, and sanitized from the inside out. Our thoroughly exhaustive hand-washing process includes several steps to ensure the best results.
First, the area rug is inspected and photographed so that we can determine the best cleaning method for that particular area rug.
Second, A 24-Hour bleed test is performed. Our rug master will choose six to eight different areas on the rug and test those areas with a solution for 24-hours to check if the colors of the rug will “bleed” or migrate. If dye migration is discovered, there are steps we can take to mitigate color loss and damage.
Third, The area rug is vibrated with over 40,000 harmonic vibrations per minute to make sure all of the dust, dirt, pollen, and other contaminants are out of the rug’s foundation. Although it may not seem like it at first glance, rugs can carry a lot of contaminates, which become embedded into its foundation, and even the most powerful of vacuum cleaners can not remove this sediment. It is not uncommon for our vibration process to remove up to four pounds of dirt, dust mites, pollen, and other contaminants from one rug alone.
Fourth, After the rug has been shaken, it is placed into a specialty “rug bath” created just for that rug. The rug is laid in a unique pool, where it is bathed, and then hand washed on both sides, deodorized and sanitized.
Fifth, The area rug is rinsed with a pH specific cold water rinse until the rug is fresh and clean.
Oriental Rug Salon’s rinse method requires care and precision; the rinse is carefully monitored to ensure that the fabric and natural colors do not suffer any damage or dye migration. Once the cleaning and rinsing stage is complete, the rug is then laid on an air table to dry, where the temperature and humidity are carefully monitored to create optimal drying conditions.
The final stage of the cleaning process is inspection, where a trained specialist inspects the rug and confirms whether it is ready to be returned to our client. The nap of the rug is carefully groomed into position, a finishing agent is applied, and the rug is rolled, wrapped, and prepared for delivery.
