A Shasavan Soumakh Double Bag, Azerbaijan, northwest Persia, South Caucasus Border Region, Wool on Wool Foundation.

The Shasavan tribal group are nomadic peoples who make artifacts of woven form while on migration. Double storage bags are frequently seen as part of their products. The weaving technique is flat woven and known as Soumakh work. The technique is traditional to the region and made by numerous tribal weavers in the Caucasus and northwest Persia. Designs are simplistic displaying geometric forms and based on abstract flora forms. The colors and design as seen here suggest that this was made Cira 1910.

The saddlebag size is 51″ X 17″ and the value is appraised at $750.00.
