Oriental Rug Flooded in SW Florida? We Can Help!

Flooded Oriental Area Rugs?  We Can Help!

Annually, we receive dozens of rugs that have been involved in a water intrusion, and one constant is evident  The faster a rug receives professional intervention, the better the end result of the cleaning and restoration.

Many rugs received are flooded as a result of a client or handyman playing plumber and incorrectly installing an under-sink water treatment system or refrigerator water line for an ice maker.  Other floods are a direct result of a water heater burst, an upstairs neighbors overflowing toilet or bathtub, or a result of a storm, hurricane, or other foul weather events.

For whatever reason wool or silk Oriental, Persian, Turkish, etc. rugs is involved in a water intrusion incident, time is of the essence.  Rugs can be ruined by water fairly quickly if not handled correctly.   The longer a rug remains wet, the more likely it will have dye migration or mold that is not correctable.

Steps To Take In the Event Your Oriental Area Rug Is Flooded

  • Once the water intrusion has been dealt with, use a shop vac to extract as much water as possible. If the rug has a rug pad underneath it, remove it prior to extraction efforts and discard it.  Wet rugs harbor harmful bacteria which can lead to mold, mildew, dry rot, color migration, and odor.
  • Contact Oriental Rug Salon and we will pick up your cherished area rug, return it to our shop for sanitization and complete the drying process.  We will also perform any steps necessary to prevent or reverse dye migration issues. We will then clean and dry your area rug to industry standards.

Wool and silk Oriental, Persian, Turkish, and other area rugs can take months, or even years, to weave by hand.  Who you choose to care for them once they have been involved in a water intrusion incident matters.

If your flooding incident involves hiring a water restoration company,  and should they advise you to “throw out” your cherished area rug because it is “ruined” do not take their advice.  Contact Oriental Rug Salon for a FREE second opinion.

Water restoration companies are NOT experts in wool and silk restoration and have no idea what’s salvageable and what’s not.  We have rescued hundreds of rugs that were previously deemed “ruined” by water restoration and mold companies.
