Basic cleaning efforts offered by carpet cleaning companies may remove the more obvious surface stains and grime, but fail to address the cleaning needs of the textile. Unless you clean through the fibers themselves, you’re literally just scratching the surface of the dirt. If not removed, deep-set particles can saw right into the fibers themselves, shredding them and damaging the carpet. When continually walked into the rug, these remaining shards will cause permanent damage such as traffic lanes, blooming, and cause the color of the rug to fade or disappear over time.
Our cleaning and stain removal procedures are performed by hand, and over 95% of the rugs trusted to us for cleaning are submerged washed, just like they are in the countries where the carpet was woven. For rugs that can not be submerged washed, we offer dry-cleaning and other cleaning techniques.
At Oriental Rug Salon, most rugs go through a dusting process before washing to eradicate dirt and other contaminants. Cold water, soft brushes, and pH-balanced shampoos are used to wash the rug to emulsify soils, dust mites, pollen, and most spills while brightening the colors, deodorizing, and resetting the pile.
The drying process is just as important as the cleaning and dusting efforts and we have special techniques that extract all moisture but won’t affect the color, the natural fibers, or stretch the carpet out of shape. Rugs are at their most vulnerable when they’re damp. If they take too long to dry, mildew and mold can form, perhaps damaging the carpet and undoubtedly increasing its odor.
The hand cleaning process at our facility usually takes 1-2 weeks to complete and is recommended every 5-7 years. The cleaning schedule for any rug depends on foot traffic, as some need to be cleaned sooner if in heavy use or with households with children or pets. We are happy to advise on whether your rugs need to be cleaned, and our team can also look after any repair work you require.
